The Role

This individual will serve as the central point of contact for all transport and fleet operations, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime, efficient scheduling, and effective driver management. The role requires a proactive problem-solver who can coordinate both planned and unplanned maintenance while driving operational excellence.

The Role

This individual will serve as the central point of contact for all transport and fleet operations, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime, efficient scheduling, and effective driver management. The role requires a proactive problem-solver who can coordinate both planned and unplanned maintenance while driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
• Fleet Management & Maintenance
- Coordinate and oversee planned and unplanned maintenance for all vehicles in the fleet.
- Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, licensed, and maintained according to schedules.
- Liaise with workshops, service providers, and mechanics to minimise downtime.
- Monitor and control fuel usage, running costs, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Supervise and manage a team of company drivers, ensuring accountability, discipline, and performance.
- Allocate and coordinate driver assignments for daily operations, ensuring efficiency and punctuality.
- Provide training, guidance, and enforce compliance with road safety and company policies.
- Monitor driver logs, trip sheets, and overall performance.
- Plan, allocate, and manage transport schedules for goods delivery, collections, and staff travel.
- Ensure timeous, safe, and efficient transport operations.
- Maintain close communication with internal departments, suppliers, and clients regarding transport needs.
- Plan and coordinate vehicle journeys to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transport of equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Assess journey requirements in advance, including route selection, distance, load type, road conditions, and environmental factors.
- Identify and obtain all required authorisations, permits, and approvals prior to dispatch.
- Communicate permit conditions and journey constraints clearly to drivers and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor journey execution and adjust plans as required to respond to changes in conditions, compliance requirements, or operational priorities.
- Maintain accurate records of journey plans, permits, and authorisations in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Verify and maintain records of driver qualifications, licences, endorsements, and medical clearances.
- Ensure drivers are competent and authorised to operate specific vehicle types, configurations, and loads.
- Monitor driver compliance with fatigue, work/rest hours, and company policies.
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the driver workforce.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and transport regulations at all times.
- Keep accurate records of vehicle usage, service history, breakdowns, and incidents.
- Generate detailed fleet reports for management decision-making.
- Maintain and implement fleet management best practices to optimise performance.
- Grade 12 / Matric (a tertiary qualification in Logistics, Transport, or Fleet Management is advantageous).
- 3–5 years’ proven experience in fleet and driver coordination.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fleet management systems.
- Experience managing both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel essential).
- Medically Fit
- Valid Code 08/10 driver’s license (Code EC license will be highly advantageous).
